John Armstrong Biography

John Armstrong
Jono started out his musical career as a guitarist. At the age of 9 he played in the junior school band and had classical guitar lessons for 2 years. After watching the ‘jonny b goode’ rendition in Back to the future he blagged his parents into buying him his first electric guitar.. that was 16 years ago

Although Jono loved playing lead, he always found himself being relegated to playing bass for whatever reason. This happened in the Scalby School Jazz band, the Scarborough ‘Easy’ Jazz band and just about every rock band he was ever in.

After moving to Indonesia, Jono finally became a full time bass player when he met ‘Gugun’ (the legendary blues guitarist). Jono was complemented for his ‘Groovy’ bass lines and persuaded to be a full time bass player. Jono has never picked up a lead guitar ever since and has never regretted doing so either.

The bass guitar has taken Jono all over the world, from New York to Kuala Lumpur and most recently to Belfast to play along side the legendary ‘Steve Cropper’. He’s co-written and recorded 2 albums with Gugun and plans to record again this winter.

Look out for Jono’s guest appearances at the Scarborough Blues Club.
